Outlook 2000 Is Very Slow

Outlook took about 5 seconds to start.Now it takes about 15 minutes and takes up to 500mb of memory - effectively freezing the machine until it has started.Once it has started, I have noticed that as I get closer to replacing my computer (when I have more files) OE does start to run a little slower, but never like this. At this point everything is running fast and smooth. Nonetheless, in addition to Dreamboat's suggestions... Still don't know how much physical memory the laptop has, but if it is paging and scanning the PST at the same time then that could explain it given the poor We've had problems like this before.
