The power outage while running Partition Magic caused the problem. It just says that the boot is corrupted. If however you have a recovery disc like many OEMs include instead you will not get that option. The install into memory was what you saw happening. The 6gig was Active and the 80gig wasnt. So I installed Ubuntu (Linux) on the unknown partition, it formatted the partition and ran fine, but then killed Windows XP- it would no longer run. I told it to do a repair install, and it copied over all the files, restarted and then went back to the beginning, starting from cd again. Problem is, when i boot into vista, i get a pxe-e61 error and can't load the hdd. I don't have any reinstallation disks but even if I did the cd won't boot.
