What do you mean it's "constantly using 3GB of RAM"? solved lowest ram using AV while idle and scanning? What's wrong? If that doesn't show anything you might need to get a better third party tool for analysing ram use, but there is another possibility as well..
Anyone who says otherwise is making wild assumptions based on nothing. Please people, will you STOP making completely baseless claims about what a system should or should not do! give it more memory and watch the memory usage go up, along with general responsiveness and overall performance. They will preload stuff you use often so it's ready to go when you need it, and will release the memory taken by such activities if another program calls for it.
